Statement of Faith
Chicago Corner Church
We as a local body of believers in the church of our Lord Jesus Christ, desire to affirm our position concerning the following doctrinal matters for the benefit of ourselves, our posterity, and of any who would be desirous to know our beliefs.
We do believe and teach:
- In one God in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. That these three are one God having the same nature, attributes and perfection. Deuteronomy 4:35; Matthew 28:19; John 17:5; Romans 1:20.
- That all Scripture is given by inspiration of God: By “all Scripture” we mean to say the whole book called the Holy bible. That it is the inerrant, infallible Word of God as guided by the Holy Spirit during its writing and that its teaching and authority are absolute and final in our faith and practice. Deuteronomy 4:2; 2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Peter 1:22
- In the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ: That He was begotten of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. That He was fully God and fully man. Matthew 1:20; Luke 1:30,31; John 1:1, 1:14, 10:30; Philippians 2:5-7; Colossians 1:19; 1 Timothy 3:16
- That Jesus Christ became the sinner’s substitute before God and died as a propitiatory sacrifice for the sins of the world: That He was made a curse for the sinner, and that He died for sins according to the Scriptures. That nothing can add in the very least to the value of the precious blood of Christ or to the merit of that finished work wrought for us by Him who tasted death for every man. Romans 3:25, 4:4-5, 5:8; Colossians 1:13-14, 1:20-21; Galatians 3:13; Hebrews 2:9 1 John 2:2
- In the resurrection of the crucified body of Christ: That His body was raised from the dead according to the Scriptures, and that he ascended into heaven and sits on the right hand of God as the believer’s High Priest and Advocate. Luke 24:39; Acts 1:9-11; Ephesians 2:1-3; Hebrews 1:3; 1 John 2:1
- That man was created in the image of God, after His likeness, but the whole human race fell in the disobedience of the first Adam: Not only was his moral nature affected by the fall, but he lost spiritual life becoming dead in trespasses and sins, and subject to the power of the devil. Therefore he cannot see nor enter the Kingdom of God until he is born again by the Holy Spirit which takes place upon one’s true repentance of sin and trusting Christ as Savior. Genesis 1:26,27; John 3:3,6,7; Romans 5:12, 8:7-8; Ephesians 2:1-3; Titus 3:5
- That Christ with the fullness of the blessings that He has secured by his death and resurrection is received by faith alone: That at the moment Christ is trusted as Savior, one passes out of death into everlasting life, justified from all things, acceptable before the Father according to the measure of Christ’s acceptance. At the time of acceptance of Christ as Savior, the Spirit of God indwells the believer to lead in and enabling the believer to live out a life of holiness and power through Him. John 5:24; 17:23; Acts 1:8; Romans 3:23, 4:3, 23-25; Galatians 2:20, 4:6-7, 5:16; Ephesians 1:3; Hebrews 9:15
- That the Church is composed of all those who truly believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior: It is the body and bride of Christ. That every believer is baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit, and having thus become members of one another we are responsible to keep the unity of the Spirit of God in the bond of peace and loving one another with a pure heart. Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 1:10, 12:13; Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:19-22; 4:1-3, 5:25-27, 5:31-32.
- That the Lord Jesus Christ calls upon all those who are born again in Christ to a confession of their faith and to believer’s baptism by immersion in water: Thus personally obeying the Lord and publicly signifying the spiritual transformation which has occurred in their life. Psalm 107:1,2; Matthew 16:15-17, 8:19; Romans 10:9-11
- That all believers in Christ are called into a life of separation from worldly and sinful practices and should abstain from such things and habits as will cause others to stumble and bring reproach upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ whom we serve. That believers are created in Christ Jesus unto good works. As having opportunity doing good until all men, particularly to those who are of the household of faith. That we are called by God to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Romans 14:13, Corinthians 10:31; Galatians 6:10; Ephesians 2:10; 1 John 2:15-16
- In the personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ: that the coming again of Jesus Christ is the “Blessed Hope” set before us and for the which we should be looking. Our citizenship is in Heaven from where we look for the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. John 14:1-3; Acts 1:11; Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Titus 2:13
- In the reality and personality of Satan, the father of lies and deceiver of the world: That we are to resist the devil by submitting ourselves unto God. Ephesians 2:2, 6:11-12; James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:8; Revelations 12:9, 20:10
